Does Red Light Therapy Really Work? My Story & Results

I used to be sceptical about Red Light Therapy (RLT). It sounded too good to be true—how could simply standing in front of a red light improve my skin, help with pain, and even lift my mood? But after using it consistently for the past few years, I can confidently say that RLT has been a game-changer for me.

This isn’t just another blog post about the science behind it (though there’s plenty of that to back it up). This is my personal experience—how it’s changed my life, what happens when I use it consistently, and what happens when I don’t.

Before Red Light Therapy: My Struggles

Before I started using RLT, my health felt like a constant battle. I struggled with acne, low energy, and the kind of aches and pains that made me feel older than I was. Winters were especially tough—I’d get hit hard by seasonal depression (SAD), making even the simplest tasks feel overwhelming.

Like many people, I searched for solutions. I tried everything: skincare routines, supplements, diet changes, exercise. Some things helped, but nothing seemed to truly fix the issues. My skin would clear up for a bit and then break out again. My energy would spike after a new supplement, only to drop back down. I needed something sustainable that worked long-term—not just a quick fix.

Discovering Red Light Therapy

I first came across RLT while looking for ways to improve my skin, but I quickly realised it did so much more. The benefits for skin health, muscle recovery, hormone balance, and even mental well-being caught my attention. At the time, access to RLT was limited to expensive clinic treatments, but I eventually invested in a high-quality home panel to use it daily.

I started small—10 minutes a day, every morning. I didn’t expect instant results, but within a few weeks, I noticed some subtle but exciting changes.

The Consistency Factor: How Daily RLT Transformed My Health

Using RLT daily made a huge difference. Here’s what changed for me:

  • Clearer Skin: My acne started to heal faster, and new breakouts became less frequent. Over time, my skin tone evened out, and my complexion looked brighter.

  • Improved Mood & Energy: My usual winter blues felt lighter, and I woke up feeling refreshed and ready to start the day.

  • Faster Recovery & Less Pain: Soreness after workouts reduced significantly. My body felt stronger, and I could push myself harder in training without constantly feeling drained.

  • Better Sleep: Falling asleep became easier, and my sleep felt deeper and more restorative.

The biggest lesson I learned? Consistency is everything. RLT isn’t a one-time miracle fix. The benefits build up over time. If I stick with it, my results keep improving. But when I slack off, I feel it.

What Happens When I’m Inconsistent?

I use RLT daily for about 10 minutes, but sometimes life gets in the way. If I miss a day or two, it’s not a big deal. But I notice the difference when I go a full week without using it.

  • My skin starts to feel duller, and breakouts creep back in.

  • I feel more sluggish in the mornings, like I need extra caffeine to get going.

  • My muscle soreness lingers longer after workouts.

  • During winter, my mood changes much faster if I skip sessions for several days.

It’s a reminder that, like eating well and exercising, I need to maintain RLT to keep reaping the benefits.

Final Thoughts

The more I learn about Red Light Therapy, the more amazed I am. I never realised how much light impacts my health until I started using RLT. I spend more time outdoors because I know many modern health issues stem from a lack of natural light.

But in today’s world, avoiding screens and artificial lighting isn’t realistic—our jobs, social lives, and even relaxation revolve around them. That’s why RLT is so important. Living in the UK, working on a laptop all day, and barely seeing the sun, I rely on RLT to give me the light exposure my body craves. It’s a small daily habit, but it makes a huge difference in how I feel.

I’m not here to tell you that Red Light Therapy will magically solve all your problems. It won’t. But what it will do is support your body in ways that make a real difference.
